TED 1.0 Pro Support / Using the TED6000 MTU without the ECC Base ??
« Last post by drakecoldwinter on April 19, 2020, 10:06:41 AM »
It's possible to use the MTU and Spyder without the ECC ??

My ECC base has been response less for nearly 2 years now. It stopped working in May 2018. The web page doesn't show and the unit seems unresponsive. I never got around to send it for repair :(

Now I have the TED6000 MTU and Spyder who seems to work well. They use a IT700-PIM to communicate. Could it be possible to replace the IT700 unit inside the MTU and replace it with a ESP32 ?? Or maybe use the IT700-PIM on the ECC base to connect it to a Raspberry or ESP32 (or arduino) to recuperate the data ? I could then interface towards home-assistant, ESPHome, Hubitat or Emon.

I think the TED software is getting old and being a closed system is not helping it. The forums here are mostly dead. I think that a project to recycle the mtu and spider into an open source system would give new life to the hardware (in my case a lot as currently I can't use my TED at all).

Edit: After a factory reset my ECC unit stays on red light (blue light on the left). The address 192.168.7.4 is not accessible. LanScan utility sees no device at all. I replaced the internal coin battery as well. The unit is not responsive.

I am calling it like this:
http://myurl/history/minutehistory.xml?MTU=0&COUNT=2344&INDEX=2344
But I am getting data with one or more holes in it (not stepping by one minute).

anyone else seeing this?

Here are my TED Versions (I updated the other day):
Gateway Version 1.0.499
Daughterboard Version 1.0.115
Footprints Version 1.0.281
MTU Version 1.0.61

This is great! Thanks Veik! Anyway you could incorporate animation adjustment features in the future such as changing the rate at which it moves around the screen?
Yea I could put that on the list.  It would be simple to add.

I know you all have been anxiously awaiting the next update to this program.  ;) Version 0.9.0 has just been released.  This new version adds data logging and graphing capability to the "companion program".

Do you have any programming skills?  If you can't talk the TED folks into doing this, you could probably do it yourself if you have some programming skills.  I just did a Google search and it looks possible for individuals to do this.  There are Youtube videos showing how to get started.

Hi -
I suggest that Energy Inc consider working with Roku to:

- allow for the TED information to display as a screensaver on a video screen hooked to a Roku.
- allow for a TED channel on the Roku that would allow for a person to view and scroll through the basic TED information on the video screen rather than just on a computer or the separate handheld LCD display.

I want to reiterate this suggestion.  It seems to me that it is almost a no-brainer: it's a way for a TED customer to display the full home and cirucuit information on a very large screen with no muss and no fuss.  It could even be a way to standardize the modest payments, using the  payment system within Roku.

Also, a home Roku channel could be similar to channels that are set up that allow users to view their photographs and such, so there is sort of some precedent for this.

US homes seem to lack basic "dashboard" and "log" setups that would help denizens to use the homes better, and to keep better track of data and significant changes to the homes.  I think a TED Channel and TED screensaver on the Roku could inch us closer to better stored and realtime home energy information.

I can see an argument against it, which is that the separate display device does readily provide some of this information (or a personal computer screen) but the display device is very tiny and requires filtering through to get the information one wants.  A personal computer screen is great for some purposes, but I think at other times doesn't get it done (one could watch a movie as well on one's computer screen, but there are times when that is not ideal).

I'm a bit biased also because my display device doesn't seem to work as well on a circuit where I can regularly look at it, so that makes me want an alternative a bit more.

If the real-time difference really is that crazy, maybe it is something with Commander. It's just odd that it would change suddenly. Send me an email at djohnston@theenergydetective.com and I'll see what I can do tomorrow!

Ok, thanks, I have sent an email.
